Here’s a brief rundown on what each of the sections under Settings >> General section of your WordPress website.

Setting Title Description
Site Title This is the title that will appear in the users browser.
Tagline a keyword rich, descriptive slogan for your blog.
WordPress address (URL) the url of your where WordPress is installed on your site. WordPress powers my site and therefore this url and the site url are the same. (i.e. http://lusciouslime.com)
Site address (URL) the url of your website (i.e. http://lusciouslime.com)
NOTE >>>>> If you want to, you can add a www. to the front of your WordPress and site address.  After you change the WordPress URL and the Site URL, you will automatically be logged out of your Dashboard. You will then see the log in box where you can log in again. WordPress does this to update your settings.
Email address This is the email address where you will receive notifications for comments, new users, pingbacks and trackbacks.
Membership This is where you can elect to allow readers to register on your blog or not. Leaving the box unchecked means that no one can register as a subscriber for your blog.
New User Default Role This is where you can choose what role people will have upon signing up for your blog. It’s best to leave it at Subscriber at this point, unless you plan on having multiple authors and/or contributors.
Timezone Set your time zone here. This should always be changed to your current time zone as it will affect the settings when you use the “Schedule a Post” option. When you elect to SCHEDULE A POST, it will ask for the date and time for that post to go live on your site. If you do not change the timezone setting here, it will use Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) displayed in the time slot for your SCHEDULED POST and can sometimes be confusing when you need a post to go live at a specific time of day.
Date Format You can choose from four standard date formats or create your own custom date format
Time Format You can choose from three standard time formats or choose to create a custom format
Week Starts On You can choose what day of the week you’d like to start with. I always leave mine on the Monday default.
